Walking Wounded
I’ve had a bit of a set back with my training. Remember last week when I pulled a muscle in my leg? It felt better and on Tuesday, I ran with Heather. I ran three minute intervals, that’s the longest I’ve ran and it felt great. My leg on the other hand, did not. I had to stop us about half way through, the pain was too much. I iced it, wrapped it and rested it. Unfortunately, the...

My Grandpa Sid’s birthday is today. However, we won’t be celebrating it. He died in 1994 from a brain aneryusm. He actually had the aneryusm seven years earlier, in 1987. As the story was told to me, one day in early October, he had a horrible headache, my grandma took him to the hospital, and he never left. He had surgery to put a shunt in his head, and when he got out of surgery, he...

Two Weeks To Go!
My first 5k is in two weeks. I’m nervous and excited. In preparation for the big day, I wanted to do a lap around the Lake Harriet (the race site). Things were going well until my calf cramped up about halfway around. I tried to run through it, but it hurt too much, I had to walk the rest. In all, it took 45 minutes, so I’m hoping to beat that time on December 5th. When I got home, I...

Sweet words of encouragement →
Click the title above to read the blog Heather wrote about our run last week. It reminds me that I need to get my butt in gear so I can run for two minutes next week. Eek! Better get to bed so I can run in the morning! Night!!

Turning it up.
I did it. I ran with Heather. She pushed me harder than I had ran before.. but I feel really good. I don’t feel like healing over and dying. I was able to do it! Until this morning, I was able to run one minute and walk four. About a quarter of the way, Heather looked at me and said “you’re running a minute and walking three.” I figured I’d put on my game face and...

My nerves are getting the best of me.
It’s 1 AM as I write this. In 9 hours, I’m meeting Heather for a run. Well, I should write “run.” I’m only able to run a min or so before having to power walk. She runs marathons & has completed a triathlon. I know she didn’t just get up one day and decide to run 26.2 miles. It takes time to train your body both physically and mentally. As I’ve...

Random 2 AM Reflection...
Shopping is both one of my favorite and least favorite things to do. I’m really good at bargain shopping and pride myself in finding a great deal. But I also hate scavenging through a store, carrying a load of clothes to the dressing room, trying each piece on and leaving with nothing. It’s so frustrating. BTW: Have you ever noticed if you hair and makeup don’t look great, the...

Makin' Progress
So after failing to stick to my training chedule, I’m back on track. The weather is beautiful, it’s in the 50’s in early November?! That’s nuts, especially for Minnesota. I like to think the weather is staying nice so I can train for this 5k. Like Heather told me a week ago: It’s really time to get my butt in gear. At this point, I don’t think it’s...

Happy Kansas basketball day!!
What’s that? You didn’t know it’s the start of the NCAA season… it’s okay. I’ve learned being a (#1 ranked) Kansas Jayhawk basketball fan makes being a Twins fan a whole lot more bearable. Point & case: baseball season ends late October (via World Series). November kicks off NCAA basketball season. Basketball games are once a week through the winter. The...
