I did it. I ran with Heather. She pushed me harder than I had ran before.. but I feel really good. I don’t feel like healing over and dying. I was able to do it!
Until this morning, I was able to run one minute and walk four. About a quarter of the way, Heather looked at me and said “you’re running a minute and walking three.” I figured I’d put on my game face and tough through it for today. After the second or third one, I realized I was able to do it comfortably.
As we finished up the two miles, Heather turned it up again: “Let’s try running a minute and a half, and walking three. You can do it.” Um, OK? I was huffing and puffing, but I eventually caught my breath.. then ran it again. Now I’m home, feeling great and full of happy endorphins.
I realized if I’m going to successfully run this 5k and half marathon, I have to change the way I think. If I think I can run longer with shorter breaks, I will be able to. Today is proof of that. From now on, I’ll run a minute and a half, and walk three.
The more I do it, the easier it will become. Then in another two weeks, I’ll turn it up again.. just in time for the 5k.
