If you’re looking to do something good today, here’s your chance. It’s Give to the Max day. It’s a great way to have a big impact with a little effort. The website GiveMN.org is a philanthropic website that highlights local nonprofits and organizations. It has every type of program possible, from education to public programs to educational services. Each organization gets a page to explain what they do and why they need the money - then you can donate.
Today (and today only) GiveMN.org will match your donation. It’s not dollar for dollar, but it has $500,000 to divide up between all the donations made. The top three places to receive donations get bonus donations. Good deal, huh?
I donated to St. Paul Public Libraries and Achieve Mpls (I couldn’t decide between the two, and they both support public education). Then I found a cause that is very dear to my heart: Herzl Camp.
I spent my summers at camp, and the rest of the year wishing I was there. Camp is such a special place, it’s hard to sum up. Herzl a little oasis surrounded by woods and Devil’s Lake. Its orange and brown cabins bring back so many memories and whenever I wear white, I think of Shabbat. At night, you can see every star in the sky. I still call Lemonade “LemLem” and know best thing to eat for Friday lunches is tuna fish and egg salad sandwiches. I’m a Schumtz Buster who climbed the wall in 5:26.. and for four amazing weeks in the Summer of ‘99, I called Herzl home. It was bliss.
I encourage everyone to donate to GiveMN.org. Look for a cause that is near and dear to your heart.. but if nothing strikes your fancy, consider Herzl Camp. It’ll make a big impact on the campers. You can watch the video above to see and hear why camp is so amazing.
