I’ve had a bit of a set back with my training. Remember last week when I pulled a muscle in my leg? It felt better and on Tuesday, I ran with Heather. I ran three minute intervals, that’s the longest I’ve ran and it felt great. My leg on the other hand, did not.
I had to stop us about half way through, the pain was too much. I iced it, wrapped it and rested it. Unfortunately, the pain got progressively worse.
Finally last night, after MacGyvering a bag of ice onto it, I was forced to go to the doctor.
This morning, the doctor said it’s a severe calf muscle strain. He doesn’t think I’ve messed up my tendon… yet. If I push it too much before I get better, I can do more damage. The physical therapist used magnetic therapy on my leg and it instantly felt better. The magnetic shocks felt tingly like prickly pins and needles, sorta like when your leg falls asleep. Every once in a while, it hurt and pinched, but after ten minutes, I was walking virtually pain-free.
I’m going on vacation this week, so hopefully a little R&R on the beach will help recoup my leg.
The doctor said if I’m walking pain-free by Thursday, then and only then, will he condone me running the 5k. It’s Saturday. I’ll be heartbroken if I can’t do it. If I can’t run it, I want to at least walk it.. but even then I won’t feel good about it.
