Snowmageddon is on its way to the Twin Cities. By tomorrow night, Minneapolis and St. Paul (and the rest of the state) will be under a thick blanket of white fluffy snow. It’s December, I suppose it’s time it looks like winter around here.
With that said, I have a confession:
Everyone has weird quirks. Everyone.
Some people save old liquor bottles and line the top of their kitchen cabinets with them. Others decorate their homes in their favorite team’s or alum’s colors. Some even have motifs, (all unicorns all the time).
My odd quirk is I collect snowmen. Little, sparkly, happy snowmen. I only take them out in the winter. I have about 20 total. They’re big and small. Some are fabric. Others are porcelain. One even has a Kansas Jayhawk outfit on. Another one lights up.
Snowmen are happy. You never see an angry snowman. No one is ever afraid or insulted by a snowmen.
My favorite thing about snowmen is they’re non-denominational. Being Jewish, I can’t decorate a Christmas tree. I don’t line up to take pictures with Santa.
People rarely say “Happy Haunkkah” when I go through the check out at a store.
Hanukkah decorations are usually tacky. They’re big gaudy dreidels, blue and silver chains of Stars. Snowmen are festive. They’re wintery. They’re cute. (And they smile back at you).
Everyone has their quirk. Mine is snowmen.
Don’t worry. They go back into storage after New Year’s Day. :o)
