The Twins have traded one of their best named players: Boof Bonser. (*note, I said best named, not best players). Boof will suit up next season with the Boston Red Sox. It’s a bit of a surprise to me considering he barely played last year.
Boof essentially missed last season as he recovered from shoulder surgery. Nonetheless, he wasn’t that great. In the last three seasons he did play, Boof went 18-25 with a 5.12 ERA. The Twins/BoSox haven’t said who we’re getting yet. Here’s the official release.
I actually met Boof two years ago in Kansas City. He was eating at the same place my friend Crissy & I went after games. He walked by the table and I asked him to sign the baseball Gardy tossed me at the end of the game.
He said no.
To which Crissy responded, “Excuse me? Who’s gonna recognize you -out of uniform, on a night you didn’t pitch when you’re out of town? No one. Sign the ball, dude!”
So he laughed, signed the ball and went back to his table.
I win.
… but now that ball is only gonna be worth something if he does a 180 and improves his numbers. (And yes, it sits next to my Morneau, Mauer, Punto & Mudcat Grant signed baseballs.)
