There’s a new buzzword on Twitter: Tweetcrawl.

WTF is a Tweetcrawl? It’s a fun way to drink and be social (with social media, of course!)

Last weekend, my good friend Erica texted me: “Get on Twitter.. we r gonna drink! via tweet!”

So I asked, “Not home. Where are you going? With whom?”

To my surprise she said, “No.. literally. Like we r drinking at home n postin pics.”

Then we decided on the name #Tweetcrawl… because it’s like a pub crawl, but on Twitter. The rules are simple: drink, tweet, hashtag, twitpic, don’t drive, be safe! It’s that simple!

So the posting began. There were just a few of us, but it was a lot of fun.

My friends and I stopped to get food and drinks, then went home. I even made some french fries.

All the while, Erica and her hubby TJ were drinking away. They even made a gingerbread aquarium throughout the night. A few blocks away, Maranatha enjoyed a bottle of Grainbelt. And Justin was on a real pub crawl.

The night ended, we all had a good time, and no one had to drive home drunk.

Then last night, the tweetcrawl got huge. When I got home from work (around 11:00) there were about 20 people tweetcrawling. It was so much fun. I threw on my ugly Christmas sweater, opened a bottle of wine and finished my Chinese from dinner. Most people were in the Twin Cities, but a few were in Milwaukee and one was even in Florida. After some college smack-talking, wishing Katie a happy birthday and discussing party buses with stripper poles we decided to actually meet up for a tweetcrawl IRL (in real life).

So after some mass messaging, I think we’ll have a pretty good crowd for tonight’s event. It’s at 7pm at Herkimer in Uptown. I’m excited to meet everyone and put a real face behind some kinda silly names. Oh, and not having to drink alone in my apartment is pretty good too. If you can’t make it, your virtual attendance is, of course, welcomed.

However, Gregg asked a pretty good question last night that’s yet to be answered: “So how do I explain a #tweetcrawl hangover? Was I drinking alone, or with friends?”
