So, I found another adventure: I’m going ice fishing.

Do I know what I’m doing? No.

Am I crazy? Probably.

Will I have fun? Definitely.

But Tracy, you may be thinking, you’re from Minnesota! What do you mean you’ve never been ice fishing? Indeed, I have not. In fact, the first time I ever tried skiing or snowboarding - was last winter.

The TV station I work for has an annual ice fishing trip, “Feeshorama.” It’s organized by Joe, who’s best known as the Good Question photographer. He’s a big outdoors man and I wouldn’t do this if he wasn’t a pro. We’ll drive about an hour north to what’s been described to me as an ice fishing resort. Imagine a big frozen lake with little ice houses sprinkled over it.

We won’t ice fish the whole time. We’ll put a fishing rod or two in an ice hole, then start drinking. After a while, we’ll snowmobile or ATV, have a snack, check on the fish, drink some more, play in the snow, drink.. well, you get the point. Rumor is Joe is bringing venison & quail, I’ve never eaten either, so I’ll add that to my list of “new things to do in 2010.”

We’ll spend the night in an ice house, then leave the next morning. It should be a good time.

I’m looking forward to going out of my comfort zone and trying something new. Seeing as I’ll be stuck on a big frozen lake with some of the most talented photographers I know, I will bring my digital SLR and get some pointers.

I’m most looking forward to the sunset on the lake & not being eaten by a wolf. Ahh,  I’m becoming so Minnesotan!
