Okay, so remember the most genius ad ever created… the one second Miller High Life ad… turns out I fell victim to genius marketing. As did millions of you.
The 1 second ads were released by Miller High Life to create buzz around the ads. So
while the commercials saved mucho moola, they also got tons and tons of free publicity (I didn’t get a cut for telling you about the ad.)
My friend Whitney took her super tech-savvy job and applied the Miller High Life ads to the software her company produces. It essentially takes a product (in this instance, the 1 sec ads) and tracks it to see what people are saying on the Internet. They have graphs and charts to show if its good or bad and does the analysis for you (when it was said, who said it, etc). They found that more than 75% of the buzz around the nano ads were done through blogs and social networking sites. In fact, less than 1% of the buzz came from MillerCoors itself.
You can see the full analysis here.
It just goes to prove that’s its not all about the bells and whistles. It’s about word of mouth and genius marketing campaigns, because Miller spent peanuts compared to the big ads we’ll soon forget about like Coke and Bud Light.
