This may be an awkward post… but it’s on my mind. When did
Facebook become the popular thing for EVERYONE in the world to do? Today I signed up one of my best friends for FB, because she’s the only one that we know without a page. Then I realized, people my age, people my co-workers ages and people my parents age are on Facebook.
Kansas was one of the first schools with Facebook. My friends quickly had me sign up. That was my sophomore year in college, 2004. Since then, high schoolers were allowed on, companies joined and eventually anyone with a legit e-mail signed up.
My predicament is this: at what point do your former posts, pics and info become inappropriate? When does your Facebook profile grown up? For instance, right now,
my boss and co-workers (whom I respect) can see my pictures from senior year spring break, sorority parties and my nights out in KC. A few months back, I went on and untagged a ton of pictures of me that I wouldn’t want them to see.
I no longer can write on my status that “I’m SHWAAAASTED” like I used to. I can’t write “Hey remember when we walked down Mass St. without shoes and rolled in the leaves in the middle of the street at 1 am?… yeah, me neither! Friday was great!”
I guess I’m wondering where the lines are. When did they blur? How do you know if you crossed it? Do you set up that barrier, yes. Then when do you know to put it up?
