Friday was Opening Day at Kauffman Stadium. It was also a big day for Kansas City, as the Royals officially unveiled the new $225 million worth of renovations.
The ‘K’ looks awesome. I was on the field for batting practice and then stayed for the game. While I’m not a completely faithful Royals fan, I was beyond impressed with the stadium.
Improvements include: finishing the big outfield monitor, Crown Vision, seating that goes all the way around the field, new seats by the fountains (which will be awesome in the late fall when it’s super hot outside), a new Hall of Fame (to be completed in July), an awesome new kids area and Little K. They’ve also added a bar and party deck
to the right field, which is bound to be the most popular spot at the stadium. Kauffman Stadium now also has wider concourses and more concession stands and bathrooms.
The renovations make me excited for the new Twins stadium. People are actually excited for the Royals this season and a lot of the excitement is because of the new and improved “K.” There’s no doubt that when Target Field opens next April, Minnesota will be filled with Twins pride. The Twinkies have always held a special spot in the hearts of Minnesotans, but I think there’ll be a whole new level of love come Opening Day 2010.
